Chain Failure?

I was bombing a hill recently, and my chain jumped off my rear cog and twisted underneath my hub/cog. Any idea what caused it? Right now, it looks like i have to buy a whole new chain.

"do you ride 50 miles a day much after a full day of work? I'd rather wait for triple A ( a friend) to come get me or drop off another bike to finish ride hahaha"

"Chain would weigh about ten pounds after first 60 miles thats why I travel so light on most of my rides and inspect my bike but it happens every once in awhile"
