"Of course, it's all so blindingly obvious now. Over the summer I converted an ancient 25" Murray to a fixed gear and fell in love with the fun and freedom. In the days of wealth and freedom before my family (2002) I had a Bob Jackson…"

"Tried the gearing for a few weeks now and I'm sticking with 50/19 which translates to 71.1" Tough up hills but getting easier."

"Thanks again Jim, So good to have people like you out there who'll share their expertise and enthusiasm. Already, after a week of trying to reduce the bounce at speed, I feel a bit more confident in my abilities to get the century nailed! The…"

"Keep it up and stay committed.  I recently rode fixed with some friends on their tandem (geared).  I had to spin  at 130+ rpm a few times or I would get dropped.  I believe ability to spin high rpm is the limiting factor. …"

"Thanks Jim, I ride down a couple of steep hills each day and I'm finding these "interesting"! My cadence is naturally fairly slow having very long legs, but I'm gradually increasing this without my legs bouncing too much!!…"

"Did my first fixed century last May.  It was epic.  Hardest part was the downhills.  Practice spinning the downhills.  Go for it."

Keep it up and stay committed.  I recently rode fixed with some friends on their tandem (geared).  I had to spin  at 130+ rpm a few times or I would get dropped.  I believe ability to spin high rpm is the limiting factor.  The faster you can spin, the lower gear you can use, thus handle climbs better.  Try some hill repeats, up the hill for strength, down the hill to work on spin.  I've read some accounts of fixed gear riders who can spin over 140.  Keep at it, don't be deterred.
