i just purchased a krypyonoite lock. its the u bolt style with the orange barrel shroud. Good luck getting thru that. bring your own grinder if you want half a chance. Its compact too.
I have a Kryptonite New York lock. Great for a rigid lock. I enjoy it a lot. Works well for general city use and seems pretty solid. Worth the weight. Only drawbacks are not great for getting around large size objects and is expensive.
Kryptonite U-Lock.

Best lock, and it's $20. Done and DONE.
Have any of you watched the YouTube vid of Hal from NYC's habitat cycles giving tips and grades on locking up a bike? It is well worth the look. His suggestion is a 'u' lock for the back wheel and frame that also forms he lock for a cable for the front wheel and frame. In addition, he makes a contraption from old bike chains for securing your seat to your frame. Finally, he suggests locking your bike to somehing that is securely concreted into the ground. Having said all of that, someone I know lost their bike his week from out front of her house having followed these rules. If someone Is really determined they will get the bike.
yea...dont ever use cable locks...no matter what. my 900dollar baby got stolen off my roof rack in 3min flat while i walked into walgreens real quick. its was the worst experience in my life...ever...worse than my divorce. =\ i know use ulocks....a bitter lesson well learned
i am using a masterlock python at the moment at uni and i like the fact you can pull it real tight to the frame. better than most cable locks out there, however im going to invest in a kryptonite, when i get paid next :)
I use the Yale lock and store it under the seat!
