SINGLE RING CRANKSETS

Hi All,
can any body out there please tell me where you can get a decent single ring chainset with 165mm cranks and able to take a ring size from 42t upwards,As all I can find are overpriced track cranksets which don't include rings and B/bracket.Hubjub has Sugino but is too expensive and the Strongllight the pcd is too small as it is a mtb chainset,Pearsons do an FSA with B/bkt but is always out of stock.
Any ideas from anywhere welcome,there must be some good places accross the pond.

The Sugino RD 48 is a 130BCD crankset that is pretty damn cheap for a cold forged japanese made crank. It includes an alloy ring (usu 46 or 48t), and chainring bolts and a cap. Like most 3 pc cranksets, they do not include the BB set. Harris cyclery has them, and Velo Orange has em too- alloy ring versions. Some shops sell it with a steel ring- be warned. it's readily available- maybe even an LBS can order it for you. There are cheaper brands- IRO, Bulletproof, etc, but they are usu a melt forged arm. not the same quality or class.

I agree that the Sugino "messenger cranks" are a good value. Another one to look into is the Pake crankset:

165 is easy to get.

Thanks to you who replied,I managed to get a miche primato 165 with 46 ring, that a local shop had gathering dust,cost 60 quid,with new sprocket and chain 1/8 of course.

Niagra Cycle Works http://www.niagaracycle.com/ has BulletProof cranks in a variety of sizes for $39 and 110 BCD chainrings that start at $10 and $13.

I'm also looking into this as well. I was looking into the Sugino messenger crankset/chainring or the suginomessenger cranks coupled with the Kyoto Loco chainring. It is a bit expensive so I may check out the Pake crankset.

The alien website also has some good prices. How is their build quality? I'm doing a conversion, so I may just buy build a wheel up and purchase a hub, cog, and chain from them and a wheel elsewhere.

That's just for the chainring though, I need to get a crankset. So I may just go the cheaper route with the Pake.

I'm thinking about purchasing a Velocity Deep V from another store, and building up a wheel with Alienbikes hub and cog. Any word on their build quality? I may want to get a flip hub so I can do a freewheel or different cog size on the other side. What hub would you recommend?

On my road fixed I have a fixed/fixed Surly hub, great hub and good price. Something a lot of people don't realize is you can put most free wheels on a track hub. Gives you the option to run fixed free if you choose, or two different fixed gearings.

Well I realize I can put a freewheel on a track threaded hub, but I'd like to have one on each side, which most track hubs don't offer. So I'm debating what I should do.
