Hi Guys,

First post.

My BB is original to my Sputnik (which is 5yrs old) and I have basically no knowledge on BBs.  Is it time to replace it?  I have put approximately 9000 miles on the bike.  I feel like the bike has lost it's smoothness and is harder to crank and I don't think I have gotten weaker (or not much weaker).

Also, I have heard a lot about external Bottom Brakets being the way of the future.  Anyone know if it is a good idea for fixed? Anyone doing this yet?  What is your setup?  I know I will need a new crank, but I haven't been able to find a solid plan on what to do around the web.  I like newer/better and would probably spend the money on it considering the amount of miles I ride.

Or, would it be a better idea (and probably more economical) to just replace my standard square and cartridge bb?

Thanks,

Nolan
