just got myself a cheap wireless bicycle computer to play around with and I am amazed at the speeds I'm doing...

from one night of cycling i already have a highest speed of 52.1 kmh and an average speed of 17.8 kmh...

I was wondering if anyone else rides with a computer and what sort of speeds those people are doing? And what are your thoughts of riding with a computer?

I put a cheap one on my mountain bike (lol) and my top speed was like 32mph
That's 50ish km/h. Quite quick... you could get done speeding if you do much more in most roads in Adelaide! haha
I have one on my MTB, but I have not used it since my 2nd week riding this year. I wanted to find out how far/fast I was riding, but now that I know how far and I can work out how fast (average not top speed) by maths I have not been using it recently. Also, I am not sure it was that accurate anyway, being a VERY cheap supermarket model.

I have no plans to put one on my ss/fixie bikes. I think it takes away from the simplicity. I will probably keep the computer on the MTB when it becomes the pack mule just so I can see how far the fam is riding with me.

I am starting to enjoy riding much more now that I have been doing it for a while (only started commuting by bike at the start of the year) and I am wanting to declutter my experience as much as possible throughout this year.
I agree with being as simple as possible, however it is a great way to push yourself when you can see how fast your going... and not long after I wrote that, decided to push myself down a big hill, and my computer told me I clocked 57km/h... so I am stoked :D
Nice work. I agree that it is interesting to see what you and your bike are capable of. That was one of the reasons I had one at the start, but I found it distracting. I was looking at it too much.

Now I take a bit more notice of my surroundings.

If I went on a long ride I would possibly fit it again, but until then it stays at home.
after testing my speed against my dads car, we figured out my bicycle computer is spitting out speeds 5km/h slower than I'm really going, so my speed was actually 62km/h :D
car speedo's are notoriously inaccurate
Try a cop's speed gun or buy the Hotwheels speed checking gun.....LOL
no computer - more of a minimalist look...... although my roadie would say I usually average around 22-24

52.1....wow. you running fixed gear????? coz you legs must have been turning
my legs do turn fast, but it's between 57 and 62 now :)
i'm looking into getting one of these. my budy has one. track his top speed, average, travel time. he only paid $20
